The Lutheran University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg (EVHN) is a state-recognized university of applied sciences sponsored by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria. Located in the heart of the Nuremberg metropolitan region, it offers academically rigorous, practice-oriented degree programs in a personal learning environment.

Whether in social work, health, education, management, religious education and Christian social work programs—EVHN fosters creative action, interdisciplinary exchange, and a personal and supportive learning environment.

EVHN is a place where people are seen, recognized, and able to participate. Students are welcome at EVHN regardless of their religious affiliation, denomination, or worldview.

Bachelor programs

Business Administration in the Social and Healthcare Sector (B.A.)

The Bachelor’s degree program Business Administration in the Social and Healthcare Sector (B.A.) prepares students for leadership, coordination, and development roles within the social and healthcare sector. The program combines business administration with sector-specific knowledge of social and healthcare systems, enabling students to manage organizations such as care facilities, welfare associations, clinics, and social enterprises in a responsible and sustainable way. Key areas of study include economics, law, social policy, organizational development, and project management, complemented by a strong focus on practical experience through an integrated internship semester. Graduates are qualified for a wide range of management and leadership positions in the social and healthcare economy, as well as for further academic study.

Early Childhood Education (B.A.)

The Bachelor’s degree program Early Childhood Education (B.A.) prepares students for professional work in the field of education, care, and upbringing of children aged 0 to 12. Combining academic theory with extensive practical experience, the program equips students with the skills to support children’s development, respond to diverse family situations, and address contemporary societal changes. Key areas of study include developmental psychology, pedagogy, child protection, inclusion, and collaboration with families and institutions. The program is offered in flexible full-time and part-time study models and includes integrated practical phases, such as a dedicated internship semester.

Diakonik - Christian Social Work (B.A.)

The Bachelor’s degree program Diakonik - Christian Social Work (B.A.) combines theological reflection with professional social practice in the context of church and diaconal work. It prepares students to take on responsible roles in social services, church communities, and educational or welfare institutions, always with a holistic view of the individual. The program integrates theology, social sciences, and practical training, enabling students to critically reflect on helping professions while developing strong ethical and professional competencies. A compulsory practical semester ensures close connection to real-world diaconal work.

Health and Care Education (B.A.)

The Bachelor’s degree program Health and Care Education (B.A.) is designed for professionals in healthcare and nursing who want to combine their practical expertise with pedagogical qualifications and move into teaching roles. The program prepares students to plan, deliver, and evaluate learning processes in vocational education, particularly in nursing and health-related training contexts. It integrates health sciences, nursing sciences, educational theory, didactics, and social and ethical perspectives, enabling students to develop a reflective and research-informed teaching practice. A strong emphasis on practical training, including a supervised practical semester and teaching simulations, supports the development of professional teaching competence. Graduates are qualified for teaching positions in vocational schools for nursing and other healthcare education settings, contributing to the development and quality of professional healthcare education.

Nursing Care (B.Sc.)

The Bachelor’s degree program Nursing Care (B.Sc.) prepares students for professional, scientifically grounded nursing practice in increasingly complex healthcare systems. The program combines nursing science, medicine, social sciences, ethics, and public health with extensive practical training, enabling students to plan, implement, and evaluate care for people of all ages in a systematic and evidence-based way. Through its dual structure, students gain hands-on clinical experience alongside academic study, developing both practical competence and analytical skills. A strong focus on clinical decision-making, quality development, and interprofessional collaboration equips graduates to take on responsibility in patient care as well as in leadership, case management, and practice development. Upon completion, students qualify as registered nursing professionals and are also prepared for advanced academic pathways such as Master’s programs in nursing or advanced practice nursing.

Religious Education and Christian Adult Education (B.Ed.)

The Bachelorprogram Religious Education and Christian Adult Education (B.Ed.) prepares students to professionally accompany people in questions of meaning, faith, and ethical orientation within school and church contexts. The program combines theological studies with educational science and practical training, enabling students to design and facilitate religious learning processes for children, young people, and adults. A strong emphasis on the integration of theory and practice allows students to gain early experience in schools, congregations, and church-based educational settings. Throughout the program, students develop the ability to connect theological reflection with pedagogical competence and to support individuals in diverse, pluralistic societies. Graduates are qualified for roles in religious education, church youth and adult education, and community-based educational work, particularly within the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Bavaria, as well as for further professional training in church service.

Social Work (B.A.)

The Bachelor’s degree program Social Work (B.A.) prepares students to professionally support individuals, families, and communities in coping with social challenges and to actively contribute to social participation and justice. The program combines social science theory, ethical reflection, and practice-oriented learning, enabling students to analyze social problems and develop effective interventions in diverse fields such as child and youth welfare, counseling, healthcare, and community work. A strong emphasis on the integration of theory and practice, including a dedicated internship semester, allows students to gain early professional experience and develop a reflective, value-oriented approach to social work. Graduates receive both a Bachelor of Arts degree and state recognition as social workers, qualifying them for a wide range of professional roles in public, private, and non-profit social services, as well as for further academic study.

Social Work Dual Study Program (B.A.)

The dual Bachelor’s degree program Social Work (B.A.) combines academic study with continuous practical experience in a cooperating social institution. From the beginning, students alternate between university-based learning and hands-on work in fields such as child and youth welfare, counseling, social services, or community work. The program integrates social science, psychological, legal, and ethical foundations with a strong focus on applying knowledge directly in practice, enabling students to develop professional competence in real-world settings. Through structured reflection, supervision, and project-based learning, students build a strong professional identity and learn to address complex social issues responsibly. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Arts degree and state recognition as social workers, qualifying them for diverse professional roles in public, private, and non-profit social services, as well as for further academic study.

Special Needs Education (B.A.)

The Bachelor’s degree program Special Needs Education (B.A.) prepares students to support individuals with disabilities, developmental delays, behavioral challenges, or other barriers to participation in order to promote inclusion and social participation. The program combines educational science, psychology, medicine, sociology, and ethics with practical training, enabling students to analyze complex life situations and develop individualized support and inclusion concepts. A strong emphasis on relationship-based work, diagnostic thinking, and reflective practice helps students build a professional identity grounded in human dignity, participation, and social justice. Through an integrated internship semester and practice-oriented learning formats, students gain early experience in relevant fields such as early intervention, disability services, or social and clinical support settings. Graduates are qualified for diverse professional roles in special and inclusive education as well as for state recognition as special needs educators.

Master programs

Advanced Nursing Practice (M.Sc.)

The Master’s degree program Advanced Nursing Practice (M.Sc.) offered in cooperation with the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg prepares experienced nursing professionals for advanced clinical and leadership roles in healthcare. The program enables students to independently manage complex care situations, lead interprofessional teams, and apply evidence-based nursing practice in specialized fields such as acute care, pediatric care, or community health nursing. Building on strong scientific foundations, students deepen their expertise in clinical assessment, ethical decision-making, and research-informed practice, while also developing skills in quality improvement and healthcare innovation. Through close integration of theory and practice in small learning groups and project-based formats, graduates are qualified as nursing experts capable of shaping and advancing professional care practice, and they are also prepared for further academic pathways such as doctoral studies.

Applied Educational Sciences (M.A.)

The Master’s degree program Applied Educational Sciences (M.A.) is a part-time, practice-oriented graduate program that prepares professionals to design, analyze, and support educational processes in diverse institutional contexts. It is aimed primarily at graduates from fields such as social work, early childhood education, special needs education, religious education, and related disciplines who wish to deepen their expertise in education, counseling, and organizational development. The program combines educational theory, ethical reflection, and research methods with a strong focus on practical application in professional settings. Students develop advanced competencies in teaching, leadership, and educational advising, enabling them to address complex challenges in schools, social services, and further education contexts. Graduates are qualified for roles in educational leadership, training and consultancy, institutional development, and academic research, and they are also well prepared for doctoral studies.

Social Management (M.S.M.)

The Master’s degree program Social Management (M.S.M.) is a part-time, practice-oriented continuing education program designed to prepare professionals for leadership and management roles in the social and healthcare sector. It equips students with advanced competencies in organizational leadership, personnel management, finance, and strategic development, specifically tailored to the needs of social organizations. The program emphasizes the connection between management theory and real-world challenges in social services, enabling students to develop sustainable, effective, and socially responsible solutions. Through flexible weekend-based study formats combined with online learning, participants can integrate academic study with ongoing professional work. Graduates are qualified for leadership positions in social and non-profit organizations, welfare associations, public services, and church-related institutions, and they are also eligible for doctoral studies.

Vocational Pedagogy - Health an Care (M.A.)

The Master’s degree program Vocational Pedagogy - Health and Care (M.A.) prepares qualified nursing professionals and educators for advanced teaching and leadership roles in vocational education within the healthcare sector. The program combines nursing science, educational theory, and didactics with management and curriculum development, enabling students to design, implement, and evaluate high-quality training programs for future healthcare professionals. A strong emphasis is placed on linking scientific knowledge with practical teaching experience, including simulation-based learning and school development projects. Students develop competencies in educational leadership, curriculum design, and evidence-based teaching, while also reflecting on their own professional role as educators. Graduates are qualified for leadership positions in nursing schools, roles in vocational training and continuing education, and further academic pathways such as doctoral studies.

English study program

The EVHN offers an English-language study program every semester. The program is designed for international students from our partner universities as well as EVHN students, and is ideal for a semester abroad, a short-term study program, or individual English-language courses in Germany.

The Study Programme in English (as part of the Studium Generale) allows you to study subject-specific content in the fields of social work, health, management, and education in an international learning environment—entirely in English.
